WORSHIP IN SONG:        NO, NOT ONE!  (By George C. Hugg)

There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one!  no, not one! None else could heal all our soul’s diseases, No, not one! no, not one!  Jesus knows all about our struggles, He will guide ‘til the day is done;

There’s not a friend like the lowly Jesus, No, not one! no, not one!

No friend like Him is so high and holy, No, not one! no, not one!

And yet no friend is so meek and lowly, No, not one! no, not one!

There’s not an hour that He is not near us, No, not one! no, not one!

No night so dark but His love can cheer us, No, not one! no, not one!

Did ever saint find this friend forsake him?  No, not one! no, not one!

Or sinner find that He would not take him?  No, not one! no, not one!

Was e’er a gift like the Savior given?  No, not one! no, not one!

Will He refuse us a home in heaven?  No, not one! no, not one!  (Public Domain)

PRAYER OF CONFESSION:

O Lord Jesus Christ, take us to yourself, draw us with cords to the foot of your cross; for we have no strength to come, and we do not know the way.  You are mighty to save, and nothing can separate us from your love.  Bring us home to yourself, for we have gone astray.  We have wandered: seek after us!  Let us live the rest of our lives under the shadow of your cross, knowing that there we are safe.  Amen

Adapted from Frederick Temple, 1821 - 1902

INTO YOUR COURTS (by Gerrit Gustafson)

Into Your courts we come, deep in our hearts we long to be near to the throne of Your glory;

As we draw near to You, know that we’re here to do Your will, God how we long to be near to You.

Chorus: May our prayers be like incense rising up to Your throne, may our songs be a fragrance unto You; may our lives be as pleasing off’rings in all that we do, God how we long to be near to You.

God how we long to be near to You.  (1991 Intregrity’s Hosanna! Music)

ANCIENT WORDS   (by Lynn Deshazo)

Holy words long preserved for our walk in this world; they resound with God’s own heart,

O, let the ancient words impart; words of life, words of hope, give us strength, help us cope;

in this world where’er we roam, ancient words will guide us home.

Chorus:  Ancient words, ever true, changing me, changing you;

we have come with open hearts, O let the ancient words impart.

Holy words of our faith handed down to this age, came to us through sacrifice;

O, heed the faithful words of Christ; Holy words long preserved for our walk in this world;

they resound with God’s own heart; O, let the ancient words impart.  (Chorus)  (©2001 Integrity’s Hosanna! Music)

IN REMEMBRANCE (by R. Courtney, B. Red)

In remembrance of me, eat this bread.  In remembrance of me, drink this wine.

In remembrance of me, pray for the time when God’s own will is done.

In remembrance of me, heal the sick.  In remembrance of me, feed the poor.

In remembrance of me, open the door and let your brother in, let Him in.

Take, eat and be comforted, Drink, and remember, too, that this is my body and precious blood shed for you, shed for you.  In remembrance of me, search for truth.  In remembrance of me, always love.

In remembrance of me, don’t look above, but in your heart look for God.  (1972 Broadman Press)

CLOSING HYMN 492 PRAYER IS THE SOUL'S SINCERE DESIRE   (Charles Wesley)

Prayer is the soul's sincere desire, un-uttered or expressed,

the motion of a hidden fire that trembles in the breast.

Prayer is the burden of a sigh, the falling of a tear,

the upward glancing of an eye, when none but God is near.

Prayer is the simplest form of speech that infant lips can try;

prayer the sublimest strains that reach the majesty on high.

Prayer is the contrite sinners' voice, returning from their way,

while angels in their songs rejoice and cry, "Behold, they pray!"

Prayer is the Christians' vital breath, the Christians' native air;

their watchword at the gates of death; they enter heaven with prayer.

O Thou, by whom we come to God, the Life, the Truth, the Way:

the path of prayer thyself hast trod; Lord, teach us how to pray!    (Public Domain)
